The right Bitcoin NFT wallet depends on what you're trying to hold. Each of the three protocols (Counterparty, Ordinals, Stamps) has different storage requirements, and the wallets that handle one well don't always handle the others. This is the practical breakdown.

The short version: if you want broad coverage across all three protocols, you'll likely run two or three wallets. If you only care about one protocol, the single-purpose specialist wallets are the most reliable choice. For Counterparty assets (Rare Pepes, Spells of Genesis, named tokens)

FreeWallet is the most-recommended Counterparty wallet in 2026. It's a web-based wallet that handles Counterparty asset issuance, transfer, and DEX operations. Self-custodial. The interface is dated by modern wallet standards but the functionality is complete: you can list assets on the Counterparty DEX, transfer named assets, view balances. Maintained by the Counterparty community.

Rare Pepe Wallet remains operational. Joe Looney's original 2016 wallet still works, still trades through the Counterparty DEX, and carries the cultural authenticity of being the original.
